2. Feminine Tongues are musical bells; which, playing soft or loud, always produce melodious peals; and the ear must be little attuned to harmony which delights not in listening to them —a scold’s tongue is only a note in alt, a little too sharp; or a bell above concert pitch ; and a single exception is no objection to a general rule. This status contains special characters. I want to start a “conceptual” PUNK BAND whose lyrics are entirely appropriated from Zukofksy (whose name I will only ever make a point of spelling incorrectly) and call it LORINE’S ABORTION.

I don’t know if I want to chime into Ron’s comment stream, but the kerfluffle had me wondering whether modernism is even strictly historical (despite its name). Bocaccio, Rabelais, Blake, Baudelaire, Sterne, Shonagon, Baudelaire, Melville (I could go on): all **modernistic** writers, if we think of modernism as a set of textual features or attitudes rather than a historical category.

OK, here’s the dilemma: my iMac is wimping out using Final Cut Pro. I do’t have the right graphics card. So do I plunk down the money for a new computer or give up my cinematic dreams and just write poetry which is practically free?
✓ X
If I get a new computer and Gary gets my middle-aged G5, what do we do with his old Flower Power G3, which used to be mine? It was voted one of the ugliest tech products ever, but I think it is a thing of beauty, or at least as beautiful as a vintage shower curtain. It seems like a crime to put it out on the street.

Now what EXACTLY is the “danger” Sol Lewitt is referring to here? “New materials are one of the great afflictions of contemporary art. Some artists confuse new materials with new ideas. There is nothing worse than seeing art that wallows in gaudy baubles. [continued in comment below]

for me, lyric is not mimetic
✓ X
Here’s what I mean: the lyric, or what I’m maybe misleadingly calling the lyric, is not mimetic because it is exploratory, it charts a course as it moves. It may start as affect/impulses, but doesn’t aim so much to “evoke” them in a mimetic sense as to construct and create them in the movement of the poem.

Attention poetry publishers: when sending promo for a new book, don’t even bother sending blurbs. Blurbs are bullshit and everyone knows it. Send sample poems and some kind of description. Really. A movie trailer shows scenes from a movie, right? Common sense. And poetry books are way more expensive than movie tix.

Dreamed I was in an empty nightclub in Japan doing several takes of a video in which I appeared naked but smeared with white body paint and fake blood and zombie makeup like that in the profile pic at left. FCP question for all you video types… let’s say I want to create a clip of handwriting & drawings to act as an overlay on other clips. Here’s how I’m imagining the process. Handwrite the pages. Scan them into photoshop. Reverse them so the background is black and the text is white. Import them into FCP and drop out the black in Chroma Keyer. Logical? Or get rid of the black in photoshop? Any easier method?
