Sewing is ridiculously hard work, especially for me who is famously impatient. I feel I’m doing a kind of mortal combat with every garment; it’s a miracle that I’m actually able to salvage them most times in the end. But what a wondrous feeling when they start to take shape, and then finally one has, if one is lucky and has persevered, something both darling and practical! Can’t really say that for poems, can you.
